Let's talk about Sword Art Online

Image
If you were in the Anime community around the year 2012, you will know how big it was. It created a whole new genre of anime and is the 1st of its kind hence the "hype".This anime was pretty good too...till ep 6. Many parodies/spin-off has been made of this show " Sword Art Online " and yes this the anime we are talking about today. Once in a while, there comes along a title (be it a movie, book, or anime) that takes the audience by storm, sweeping numerous off their feet, leaving several with a bad aftertaste in their mouth and making a few passes the work off as ‘average’ or ‘mediocre’. Online communities, forums, chat rooms, and every other nook and corner of the internet known to man turn into arenas of debates, discussions, fanboyism/fangirlism, and flaming. It’s apparent that when something is popular, it doesn’t always get to bath in praises. With the acclaim, comes a sheer amount of criticisms. Also, it goes without saying that popularity  doesn’t necessar...

Lets talk about In This Corner of the World/Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni

This is a movie I am sure many of you must have not heard of and that's because it's not "famous". Don't confuse famous with good as I personally have seen many people do that. For me, I accidentally found this movie on Netflix while looking for animes to watch and am so happy I stumbled upon it. The synopsis goes a bit like this Suzu Urano  is a pure and kindhearted girl who loves to draw. She can also be quite the airhead, owing to her ceaseless daydreaming, much to the annoyance but also the joy of those close to her. Growing up in the outskirts of Hiroshima City, Japan, she led an ordinary but happy life with her family. However, after some time, Suzu has to suddenly leave her beloved home to move into the neighboring town of Kure, due to her marriage to  Shuusaku Houjou , a man she barely knows. Put to work in her husband's household, the homesick girl struggles to adjust to the unfamiliar environment, living with a family who treats her coldly. She can...

Lets talk about The Garden of Words/Kotonoha no Niwa

Makoto Shinkai is a name that has become increasingly prevalent over the years and for good reason, too. After hitting the anime industry in 2007 with his opus magnum "5 Centimeters Per Second", he quickly established himself as a director with the ability to combine masterful artistic talent with emotional, bittersweet storytelling. I truly think this film does not get the love/attention it rightfully deserves. This is probably because of Shinkai Makoto's' other films like the worldwide phenomenon "Your Name" or "Weathering with You". I am in no means saying that the Garden of Words is better than them because it's not but it is not bad either. It is a fabulous, remarkable and an amazing film.  This film manages to portray what other films try to portray in like 25 episodes or 2 or 3 hours in just a mere 45 minutes because that's how long the film is. The synopsis goes a bit like this " On a rainy morning in Tokyo, Takao Akizuki ,  an...

Lets talk about Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2 - Battle Tendency

Image
This is a sequel to  JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 1 - Phantom Blood & if you want to find more about that. I have done a blog separately talking about that only, so do check that blog out before reading this one. The people who haven't seen Part 1, there will be spoilers head so. Link in comments. This story takes place 50 years after Part 1(1888) in 1938, this is where we get introduced to Joseph Joestar and his grandma Erina who is the wife of Jonathon Joestar. Rest everybody is dead, including Joseph's Parents. In the same episode, we come to know of the discovery of a ruin in Mexico which is said to have something terrible. Which is later revealed to be Stone Masks and the pillar men (the main antagonist of the show) who created the stone mask 2000 years ago to conquer the sun, as they cannot go in the sun, or else they will be too overpowered in the start only. Since the story is very close to World War 2 so, we actually get to see Nazis in the anime at least, whi...

Lets talk about Hotarubi no Mori e

Image
"It is sad not to love, but it is much sadder not to be able to love." The words uttered by Miguel de Unamuno become unusually symbolic when we think of them in the context of Hotarubi no Mori e. The romance genre has grown stiff over the centuries - and some may even imply that any originality in that particular type of works has depleted, that nothing fresh and original can be created when basically everything is a cliché these days. Well then, I'm truly glad I can say that whoever sports that belief is in the wrong. The evidence: Hotarubi no Mori e. How  much emotion and feelings can be put into a small vessel? As Shakespeare and his cycle of sonnets taught us - you don't need much space (or time) to deliver a powerful blast of vivid emotions. And this film needed circa forty minutes to revive within me certain emotions, which I believed I had managed to cast aside a long time ago. In our era, the concept of love seems to be incomplete, and - I dare to say - a bit ...
